The Lighthouse

I live in a town with a lighthouse by the sea

Standing firm and tall as a gateway to the harbour

Watching passing ships as they sail up the lough

It burns brightly in the night as their first piece of armour

This altruistic monument from 1836

Sends its pulsing rays over the waves in a rhythmic beam of light

Giving hope from a distance from the shore to the sea

Protecting the battered and bruised from the enraging storms of life

It will carry you … sustain you … rescue you …

Until calm waters surround you with a sense of peace

You will tire no more, all anxieties float away

As the suffering subsides and your storms will cease

Hope is there, with love wrapped around it

Can you feel it … you are loved … you are saved by Grace

And by that name she saw the wreckage ‘Forfarshire’ on the rocks

With boldness, courage and strength made her way to that place

When you feel all is lost, drowning in distress

Grace will save you when you least expect it, my friend

For you are held in safe arms touching your heart and soul

And in a place of desolation, you too can transcend …..
